I Thought Planning a Wedding in Italy Would Break Me. It Didn’t.
Probably not something I appreciated enough at the time!
The best feeling wasn’t picking flowers. It was the moment I stopped wondering and started knowing. Knowing what the weekend would look like. Knowing we had a plan. That’s the best bit about eJuno – that sense of feeling in control; the peace of mind for us, our wedding guests.
The thing that made it feel “Italian” wasn’t what I expected
I thought the magic would be in the obvious things: the views, the architecture, the fact you can get married somewhere that looks like a painting.
But what made it feel truly Italian was the pacing.
We built the weekend around softness:
- a welcome aperitivo where everyone arrived, met up and relaxed
- a wedding day that didn’t feel like a performance
- a brunch the next morning where nobody rushed off
That’s what guests kept talking about afterwards — not centrepieces, but how relaxed it all felt. Like a holiday that happened to include a wedding, not a wedding with a holiday bolted on.
The night I realised I’d actually enjoy my own wedding
About two weeks before we flew out, I had a moment I didn’t expect: I felt calm. Not “everything is perfect” calm — more like “we’ve done what we need to do” calm. The kind that lets you get excited again.
And on the day itself, Tom and I weren’t running around solving problems. We were both present in the moments. I remember glasses clinking at sunset, my mum’s face when she saw the tables, the warmth of the air at 9pm, and the way everyone stayed on the dancefloor longer than they ever do in London.
And I remember thinking, at one point: This feels like us.
Italy gives you the beauty for free. The real work is making it feel effortless — and then letting yourself enjoy it when it finally arrives. Thanks eJuno for being there every step of the way!
